The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has clocked over Rs 1 lakh crore in order value in a single year 2021-22.

The GeM, launched in August 2016, is a one stop portal to facilitate online procurement of common use Goods & Services required by various government ministries and departments, Public Sector

GeM platform is helping  empowering MSMEs, with 57 per cent of order value coming from MSME sector.

GeM is hosted by the Directorate General of Supplies and Disposals (DGS&D) under Ministry of Commerce and Industry. It aims to enhance transparency, efficiency and speed in public procurement. It provides the tools of e-bidding, reverse e-auction and demand aggregation to facilitate the government users achieve the best value for their money.

The purchases through GeM by government users have been authorized and made mandatory by Ministry of Finance.
