As per the employment and labour laws in India, any employee being an adult (who has completed 18 years of age) may work upto maximum of 48 hours in a week and not more than 9 hours in a day. It is pertinent to note that the working hours and overtime payment varies from company to company depending upon the nature of business carries out and employment agreement. Under the Minimum Wages Act and the Factories Act, every adult employee cannot work for more than 9 hours in a day. 

An employee can claim compensation from the employer under such circumstances wherein the employer was liable to make payments/ give benefits to the employee. Following are wrongful some of the circumstances under which the employee can claim compensation; denial of maternity benefits, non-payment of salary in lieu of notice period, non-payment of gratuity, non-payment of provident fund, wrongful termination, sexual harassment at work place etc. the amount so claimed is varied and depends upon case to case basis.
